The right kind of traffic to your website is music to internet marketers’ ears.  Good traffic matched with the right kind of offer is magic when it comes to profits. 

It’s an amazing feeling when you see a lineup of hungry customers hungrily consuming what you are serving them. But is all traffic the same? Is there such a thing as good traffic and bad traffic?

When you first get acquainted with affiliate and online marketing, traffic can seem confusing at times. It can seem to be the one missing piece of the giant puzzle that is marketing.

You could have the hottest product and killer landing page setup., But without good traffic you might just be hearing crickets chirping instead of customers.

Warning: Traffic to your website is addictive!

Traffic is an elusive mistress. When you get a taste of a good traffic source, you will be hooked.

When you connect the right traffic with the right offer and your PayPal account exploding, you will crave more and more. Traffic is addictive! Like potato chips, you can’t stop at just one!

You will want more of it, scaling until you can scale no more! But wait, there’s a catch!

The truth is: Not all traffic is created equally.  It’s like the difference between a tricycle and a Formula One race car. You need to know what good traffic really looks like for you and your business.

Quality or Quantity?


Traffic is kind of like food. You should never confuse quantity with quality.  I’m sure you’d rather have 1 pound of fresh potatoes than 1000 pounds of rotten ones.

It’s easy to get sucked into the trap of hearing those ‘experts” bragging about how much traffic, hits or likes they get to their sites. You might start to believe that “Size matters.”

You might think that you need millions of website visitors just to make a buck online. This all sounds plausible, at least in theory.

This theory only makes sense if you can see how much income he’s generating or how many people actually opt into his email list.  However, these facts aren’t usually shared that much.

Why?

Because if your traffic isn’t focused on reaching hungry and willing customers who need your solution, it isn’t worth a hill of beans! And if your traffic produces a lot of visitors and no buyers, it’s a real exercise in vanity!

Let’s say you sell patterns and supplies on how to make dresses.

Traffic to your Website Storytime

You find out that there is a convention in the city near you. They expect 50,000 attendees. What do you do? You run out and drop hundreds to get a booth to sell your wares. But there’s a big issue with your plan!

The convention is for muscle car enthusiasts!  D’oh!

So how do you think your sales are going to be? Pretty dismal, right?

Why? Because the walk-by traffic is more interested in Mustang mufflers than skirts!

Sure you might get some wives or girlfriends around that also make dresses, but that’s just a needle in a haystack!

If you want to cash in on this convention you’d have to target your approach. 

Maybe you could create or sell muscle car lapels or T-shirts. Or you could skip it and find a dressmaking convention.  These ways are better because you are targeting your offer to the right target market.

What did we learn?


1.You need to get targeted traffic to your offers.
2.You then need to increase this targeted traffic.


 Warning: Rookie mistake!

Letting the quality of your traffic slip in favor of the increase in the quantity of traffic. Never ever decrease or neglect to test the quality of your traffic!

But how do you know what quality traffic is?  That’s where the process of testing and tweaking begins. The best marketers know the value of constantly testing their traffic, sometimes every day! 

Remember this: Unless you test, it’s just a guess!
