Are Comptia Security+ Course Certifications Worth It?

We've discussed CompTIA Security+ Course certifications like Security+ and CySA+ in various articles. In this one, I'm going to discuss the more fundamental issue of whether CompTIA certifications, in general, are worth the effort, time, and money required to get them.

What do you think? Are CompTIA Security+ Course certifications worth the cost? CompTIA certifications can benefit intermediate-to-mid-level IT and cyber professionals since they are well-known and easily accessible. Professionals with experience in cybersecurity will likely help more from other CompTIA certifications. There are other options, such as OSCP, CISSP and CISSP, and OSCP and OSCP, among others.

CompTIA Certifications Start at Entry Level

The most significant advantage of CompTIA tests for those in the initial or intermediate levels of our cybersecurity careers is that these certifications are designed to be at this same stage. Most CompTIA certifications require at least three years of work experience in the field, and they cover fundamental IT security and concepts like introductory networking, hardware, safety, and software. They align with an individual's background and experience at the beginning of their professional career.

Furthermore, CompTIA certifications are vendor-neutral, meanings they have to concentrate more on the fundamentals of technology rather than how it is utilized in a specific vendor platform. This neutral approach to vendor selection can result in making some certifications of CompTIA certifications more abstract that exam takers will find much easier since they can be learned through memory rather than requiring a lot of knowledge.

CompTIA Certifications are less expensive than Other Certifications.

One of the most appealing advantages of CompTIA exams is the low price. Numerous higher-level certifications within cybersecurity and IT and the cybersecurity sector can become very expensive, with some even reaching $1,000 or more. CompTIA has managed to keep many of the exams at a lower cost, typically within the $350-$350 required to obtain the certificate. It's a lot harder for entry-level workers to convince themselves to spend the money for certifications if they do not have the path to a career or income to justify it, which is why the low cost of CompTIA certifications is a great alternative.

No Application Fees and No Documented Experience

If you closely look at the fine print on the various advanced-level certifications, you'll notice that they contain two specific requirements. They will first require fees for the non-refundable application, and the second is that they will need that applicants be able to prove their experience, often more than the length of five or more years. However, they may even require the sponsorship of a current certification holder to be eligible. Others need you to pay and attend their entire course to prepare for the test.

These factors help to make these certifications more effective as they exclude those who cannot take advantage of these options or lack the expertise or connections. For CompTIA certifications, however, there are none of these requirements. With a CompTIA certification, you can take any test with any number of questions at any point in time without needing to apply or record your experience.

CompTIA policy favors

The CompTIA policy favors those who take certification exams in significant ways. When you have CompTIA certifications, you can take the test you are most comfortable with, any time you'd like, and prepare in the way you prefer. You can also take as many exams as quickly as you'd choose. The advantage is that obtaining several CompTIA certifications in a few months can be highly feasible for skilled and dedicated professionals.

With the benefits general to CompTIA certifications and ITIL Foundation now being covered, I'm going to go over the most commonly used certificates issued by CompTIA with their pros and cons, in addition to how these certifications can assist future cybersecurity professionals in growing and developing their careers. Let's get started.

The CompTIA A+

It is CompTIA A+ has been in existence for quite a while. It still has its original purpose and format despite all these years. The sole CompTIA certification that requires two tests, A+ certification, was designed for those who are getting into the IT sector or want to take on the technical support field, like an IT repair technician and assist desk analyst.

The A+ has adapted some throughout the years, and each iteration has added technologically advanced concepts like security and networking, which weren't present in previous versions. However, it is essential to note that the A+ was developed long before the need for cybersecurity. IT departments did not need to be concerned about security. They were focused on software, hardware, and the users. Due to this, its impact on the modern technology departments is not as significant, even though it's still recognized.
