How much does it cost to study engineering in Germany?

An engineering degree can lead to a variety of careers, ranging from electrical and computer engineering to ecological and medicinal engineering. The vast majority of today's college grads will have multiple careers throughout their working lives, and engineering can serve as a solid basis for practically any of them. Germany being the manufacturer of automobiles and being technologically ahead, opting for an engineering course in Germany is always a good option.

Choosing to study engineering in Germany is like the icing on the cake. And who doesn't love cake with icing?

Engineering education in Germany has a long history of being available to both domestic and international students. You will gain a lot as an international student from the high-quality education provided without having to pay tuition costs. After completing your engineering studies, a degree in engineering from Germany is globally recognized and serves as your passport to employment in Germany and around the world.

A student can choose from top engineering universities in Germany like:

  • Münchener Technische Universität (TU Munich)

  • Aachen Technische Hochschule Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Rheinisch-Westfäl (RWTH Aachen)

  • Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is a technical university in Karlsruhe (KIT Karlsruhe)

  • Berlin Technische Universität (TU Berlin)

  • Duisburg-Essen University

  • Stuttgart University

  • Darmstadt Technische Universität (TU Darmstadt)

  • Dresden Technische Universität

  • Hannover Leibniz Universität

  • Hamburg Harburg Technische Universität

But before stepping into any of the universities one should be aware of entry requirements for engineering in Germany.

The following are the entry requirements for a German-taught Bachelor's degree in Engineering:

  • Attaining a 3.0 GPA on the SEE Exam is minimum

  • A minimum GPA of 2.8 in 10+2 or comparable subjects is required.

  • There should be no more than a two-year gap in German language proficiency at the B1 level.

What could be the cost of studying engineering at public colleges in Germany?

Tuition fees for Bachelor's and Master's degrees are not charged at public universities (unless you plan to pursue a Master's degree in a subject other than the one you studied as a Bachelor's student). All international students, regardless of their country of origin, are eligible for free tuition in Germany.

The lone exception is the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, which restored 3,000 EUR/year tuition costs for non-EU/EEA students at the end of 2017.

In Germany, the college tuition fees are almost negligible which is a great reason to be educated there.

Most German institutions do not charge tuition for engineering students, but you must be capable of covering your living expenses on your own. A total initial investment of 17-18 lakhs NPR is normally required, including the first year's living costs of 10500 Euros in the form of a blocked account. A student can choose free public German colleges like Stuttgart University, Mannheim University, and Cologne University.

But is the situation of tuition fees different for international students?

It is a piece of good news for international students that they are not charged tuition at German colleges. Learners simply have to pay an administrative charge of between 100 to 300 Euros (8,000 – 25,000 INR) per semester.

What if a student is going to study in private engineering colleges in Germany?

Tuition at German private institutions can cost up to 26,000 EUR per year for a Bachelor's and 40,000 EUR for a Master's degree. Engineering and Business & Management programs are the most expensive.

Germany is a country in Europe that can save you money and give you a highly reputed degree.

If you wish to pursue an Engineering Master's degree in Germany, you should be aware that the living costs are lower than in many other European nations, such as the Nordic countries. In some of Germany's smallest cities, students can live on as little as 700 EUR per month.

In Germany, international students are allowed to work up to 720 hours a year, or 90 full days. Part-time jobs that pay 7 to 8 euros per hour are plentiful and a wonderful way to supplement your income.

Engineers not only create new goods, but they also ensure that their applications are safe to use. In Germany, it takes around 4.5 to 5.5 years to complete a German-taught engineering program, including time spent studying German and completing the foundation course.
