Yellow Alert in Delhi- What Has Been Closed and What Will Continue to Be Open

Because of the rising number of Covid cases in the city, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has issued a yellow alert and imposed a variety of restrictions under the city's Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

The chief minister stated at a high-level meeting to review the Covid issue that while virus cases were rapidly increasing in Delhi, there was no need to be alarmed because the majority of individuals were experiencing mild symptoms.

The yellow signal will trigger a slew of additional restrictions under the Delhi government's four-stage Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

According to PTI, the yellow alert entails restrictions such as night curfew, school and college closure, odd-even opening of non-essential shops, and decreased seating capacity in Metro trains and buses, among other things.

Restrictions under yellow alert-

  • Night curfew.
  • School and college closures.
  • Shops selling non-essential things will be closed.
  • Metro train seating capacity has been reduced by half.
  • Bringing weddings and funerals to a close

When is yellow alert issued?

When the city's positivity rate falls below 0.5% for two days in a row, a yellow alert is issued. On Sunday, the positivity rate in Delhi was 0.55 percent, and on Monday, it was 0.68 %.

Regardless of the fact that cases were increasing in Delhi, the CM said there was no increased demand for medical oxygen or beds and ICU facilities, implying that most people were being treated at home.

He added the list of restrictions imposed by the yellow warning would be made public later.

Night Curfew in Delhi-

In the wake of rising coronavirus cases and a night curfew in place to limit the virus's spread, the Delhi government has urged police and other officials to deal harshly with individuals who break the COVID-19 restrictions. The government has also made New Year's Eve celebrations illegal. On December 27, a night curfew (from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.) was enforced in Delhi.

The Delhi government has issued the following measures as part of GRAP:

  • Throughout the NCT of Delhi, there will be a night curfew in effect from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Schools, theatres, gyms, auditoriums, assembly halls, spas, yoga centres, amusement parks, and water parks have all been closed in Delhi.
  •  Sports complexes, with the exception of those necessary to prepare athletes for national and international competitions, are closed. Swimming pools are, too (those training the athletes are allowed).
  •  Mall stores will operate on an odd-even basis. Strict adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), such as the wearing of masks, has been made essential in weekly markets.
  •  All three municipal corporations/NDMC/Delhi Cantt Board shall allow only one licenced weekly market per day per zone (up to a maximum of 50% of the permissible merchants during normal time).
  • Shops are allowed to open between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on an odd-even basis in markets and market complexes — businesses will open on alternating days based on store numbers.
  • All single (standalone) stores The hours of operation for neighbourhood (colony) stores and shops in residential complexes are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with no odd-even restrictions.
  • There will be no standing passengers on metro trains and buses, which will operate at 50% capacity.
  •  From 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., restaurants are permitted to use 50% of their seating capacity. From 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., bars with 50% of seating capacity are permitted.
  •  Hotels and lodges will be allowed to open on the condition that no banquets or conferences will be held. It is permissible to provide room services to in-house guests.
  •  Private offices operate with up to 50% of workers present between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (offices falling under the exempted category are allowed to function with 100 percent attendance).

  • For weddings, a maximum of 20 persons are permitted, with the condition that the ceremony be held exclusively in court or at home. Only 20 persons are allowed in funeral-related parties. Inter-state bus travel is permitted, however only up to 50% of the seating capacity is available for transportation of only exempted/allowed items, such as medical situations. Standing passengers are not permitted.

  • Autorickshaws, e-rickshaws, and cycle rickshaws are permitted to carry up to two people. Maxi Babs are limited to five passengers, while RTVs are limited to eleven.
