A quick web search will reveal a lengthy list of SEO marketing tools that promise to help users select the best keywords, monitor search trends, implement SEO best practices on their sites, and so on. With so many options, picking a valuable tool or tools for a specific purpose can be harder than it should be.
The right set of SEO tools will give you insight into trends, search volumes, and paid search costs, at least. You want to track several statistics related to key words. The number of searches, or search volume, is important but so are trends, and the cost of paid search. Many, many paid and free SEO tools are out there, but here are three popular and free tools.
Ubersuggest
This popular application from digital marketing guru Neil Patel offers easy access to information on paid search, organic search, backlinks, and competition. Type a URL into the search bar to find out a ton of details about the site’s SEO. You can also use paid search data to figure out how much you might have to invest in Google Ads. How competitive are your primary keywords? You can find out how much competition there is to rank for various keywords, for both paid and organic search.
Google Analytics Dashboard
Google provides a great deal of search information by keyword, by geographic area, and by time period. You need to track trends in the popularity of popular keywords and Google offers a great tool for doing just that. You will, however, need to spend some time learning to use their keyword analyzer. Simply knowing the Popularity Score for selected new keywords is not enough because you don’t know how many people a particular score represents.
Answer the People
This “search listening” tool has both free and Pro options. You can use this site to find out what questions people are asking by typing keywords that are relevant to your industry or product line. The results can suggest questions to answer in a FAQ, blog post, landing page, or report. Unfortunately, the free version of the tool only allows three searches per day.
Google Search Console
Formerly known as Google Webmaster Tools, this dashboard view of searches and links offers some of the same information as Google Analytics in a different format. You might find the format easier to understand than either Ubersuggest or Google Analytics.
